The Guyana Forestry Commission is a semi-autonomous body set up in 1979 after the Forestry Department was dissolved. The Commission is legally mandated to manage and control the utilization of the state's forests; ensuring an optimum and sustained yield of forest produce and the maintenance and improvement of the environment. The Commission's Mission statement is "To provide excellence in forestry management services to our stakeholders through the application of professional skills to contribute to our nation's development".
